Faith Over Flaws: Your Strength is in Your Difference

There is strength in our weaknesses.

Where we see weakness, God sees strength. Where we see mistakes, God sees opportunity.

We can be so focused on our struggles and shortcomings that we overlook the potential and blessings hidden within them. But, God doesn’t make mistakes. The very things we perceived as flaws can be the very things He uses for His glory. There are some things on this side of heaven that we won’t fully understand, and that’s why faith is a non-negotiable for believers.

Walking in faith means taking steps forward even when you can’t see the full pathway. It’s trusting that God has a plan and purpose for your life, even when things don’t make sense.

I believe that God can use you just as you are. Whether you are talkative, soft-spoken, introverted, extroverted or somewhere in between… it’s okay! Someone in this world will be blessed simply by you showing up as your authentic self. It took me years to become okay with being me; to truly love myself as I am. But, how can you fully love others if you don’t first love yourself, including the parts of you that others might try to change? I’ve never been the loud and talkative girl (although my husband has said otherwise!) But, over time, I have learned that you can be bold, confident, and used by God, even if you are soft-spoken or not the most outgoing person in the room.

Not everyone is drawn to my personality and that’s okay. Over the years, I have worked in places where people asked, “why don’t you ever talk?” But, I’ve also had people tell me they appreciated my calm and observant nature. The contrast helped me realize that who I am is a strength, not something that I need to change to fit anyone’s expectations. I had to learn not to take peoples comments personally, to the point where I felt pressured to be more extroverted. I just need to be me. And you just need to be you.

My husband has dyslexia, which comes with its challenges. There are moments when, out of frustration, he’ll say his mind is broken. But, the truth is, God didn’t make a mistake in how He created him. Yes, dyslexia presents difficulties, but it also brings unique strengths; like his incredible ability to organize, memorize and process information in a way that offers a different perspective. His mind isn’t broken. It’s just wired differently, and that difference is a strength.

For someone reading this, I believe that God is waiting for you to shift your perspective about the things that make you insecure or conflicted. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, waiting for someone to call you into the game, I pray this post encourages you to stand up and say, “Hey coach, I’m ready! Put me in!”

I pray that you will walk in faith, even when your situation doesn’t look promising. I pray you trust God with your future, surrendering every dream, plan and goal; both short-term and long-term, to Him. I pray that your eyes will be opened to see just how beautifully and uniquely you were made. What makes you different, what sets you apart is a strength!

We aren’t for everybody, and that’s okay. Each of us has a purpose and an assignment in this life, and our personality, passions and experiences will naturally attract those who are meant to impact. Some people will gravitate toward you, while others will not and that is by design!

Someone needs what you have to offer. Someone needs to hear your story, your testimony, and your perspective to get their breakthrough. When you truly understand who you are and what your purpose is, the opinions of others won’t shake you.

The call on your life? It wasn’t a conference call.

Show up as you. That’s more than enough!

Before you go…

I created a faith-based Facebook group for women who want to set and slay goals, focus on mental wellness and support one another. It’s a space to share self-care tips, encouragement, prayer requests, and scripture verses and an opportunity to find a Vision Partner (someone to help keep you accountable and walk with you toward your goals)!
