I did not know what I wanted to do with my life.

It was my senior year of college and most of my peers seemed to know what their plans were post-graduation. Some planned to go to grad school and others planned to enter the workforce. No matter what path they were choosing, most seemed to know what field of work and career path they wanted to pursue. Some had internships lined up and others were already interviewing for jobs. But not me. Nope, I had no clue what I wanted to do.
I started my college career as a double major; majoring in music with an emphasis in voice and psychology. Half-way through, I decided to drop one of my majors and focus on one. I chose psychology, because although I loved music, I knew that with my lack of knowing what career I really wanted to pursue, majoring in Psychology would give me flexibility to take my time to decide and to go in multiple directions. Well, that worked out well since the 2nd semester of my senior year arrived and I still didn’t have a clue what I would do.

Fast forward to December of 2016 when I attended a 3 day workshop called Publish a Book and Grow Rich. Y’all, I thought I was going to learn about publishing a book and getting rich, and don’t get me wrong, I did learn about that but I walked away with knowledge of something I’d never thought twice about. Not only that, but it was the beginning of me discovering both my passion and purpose in life. I mean when I first arrived at the event, I had no desire to write and publish another book. However, that weekend, the speaker who taught us, provided a lot of life changing information about mindset. Mindset. That was a term I wasn’t really familiar with. Of course I’d heard the word thrown around before, but I never studied it in depth or learned what it really meant, let alone how it worked.
That weekend changed my life. While I learned valuable tools and techniques for developing and transforming your mindset and achieving your goals, it was 7 words that were spoken time and time again. I will never forget those 7 words, because it was those 7 words that changed the trajectory of my life. It gave me a sense of direction and purpose. Those 7 words can change your life as well, IF you really grasp the meaning behind them.

Mindset is one of the most simple yet complex terms I’ve ever come to know. It sounds so simple, that many people don’t think twice about its meaning. Like literally, we have the power to create our future and our realities simply by the thoughts we think and the words we speak. I mean who hasn’t heard cliches like, “be careful what you think, your thoughts run your life,” “words have power” and “death and life is in the power of the tongue.” I mean these are cliche’s that are not only preached in pulpits, but their taught among atheists and agnostics as well. While the concept is biblical, its popular among those who aren’t into religion at all. It’s so cliche’ that we as humanity, just don’t consider it as much as we should. I mean if we did, most of us wouldn’t complain half as much as we do right?

Those 7 words changed my life, because I began to study and train myself to become more aware and careful of the kind of thoughts I allow myself to think consistently. The more I practiced, the easier it became. Oh trust, I still complain and I’m not always positive. But, it’s amazing how far I’ve come and the results that I’ve seen manifest in my life is all the motivation I need to continue. I’ve become so much more confident and happy in life, ever since I took control of my mindset. The key to changing your life, is changing your mindset. Of course, there’s more to it than that. But, your mindset is the best place to start. Take back your power and realize that negative people and situations only have as much power as you allow them to have. They only have power to influence your mindset. You set the limits and determine how it impacts you.
What you think about, you bring about. Let those words change your life. Whatever you think about consistently, that is what you are attracting into your life. Those words changed my life because I changed the thoughts that I was thinking consistently. I began to focus my thoughts on what I wanted in my life and I began to see those things manifest. Seeing how the information I learned at that 3 day workshop impacted my life, inspired me to want to share that life changing information with others – for a living. It inspired my 3rd book, Empower You! Mindset Transformation: A Daily Devotional for the Mind” and my first business ( I’ll tell you about that later!)
This week I challenge you to pull up YouTube on your phone and watch a few videos on Mindset and the power of your thoughts. And, find a way to practice becoming more aware of your thoughts and focus points throughout the day and to practice changing those negative thought patterns to more positive ones. You can do this through meditation and journaling. As always, feel free to share your thoughts below in the comments & share with someone who needs this!

Great post! It’s funny how we go to these seminars wanting to “learn how to make more money” and come out completely transformed. Mindset is HUGE, so is gratitude… it’s hard to be negative when you are focused on being grateful. Thanks again for a great post!
Yesss that is a great point. Mindset and gratitude go hand in hand! Thanks for reading & hope you have an amazing week 💕
