How NOT to Give Up On Your 2020 Goals

It’s common knowledge that during that at the start of each new year, many people, all over the world set new goals and new year resolutions. It’s also commonly known that most start of strong, but instead of gaining momentum, most people fall off around March and April. Many of us know this to be true and can raise our hand it admittance that we are guilty of this too.. giving up on our goal or resolution. Have you ever stopped to wonder why so many individuals continue to go through the cycle of starting and stopping when it comes to pursuing their goals? Because, if it’s one thing I know, is that LIFE happens to us ALL. No one Is immune to unexpected challenges, roadblocks and setbacks occurring. That’s just life right. Yet, some or should I say ALL of the most successful people in the world have faced multiple challenges at some point in their lives. The difference between them and everyone else is that they kept going!

In 2020, I encourage you to keep going! But, I’m not here to encourage or motivate you. I’m here to empower you to keep going! So, I’ll tell you what you want to know. Let’s face it, it’s easy to give up on our goals when things get tough or uncomfortable. But, how do you NOT give up on your goal? How do you KEEP going?

You plan.

You need to have a plan.

Not just any plan. You need to have a strategic plan.

Having a strategic plan of action means that you have a plan for HOW you will KEEP going WHEN roadblocks and setbacks present themselves.

I promise you, roadblocks and setback will arise. And, that is when many people get discouraged. BUT, when you have a strategic plan, you have a flexible plan that gives you options. Meaning, IF you plan A does not work, you have a plan B, C and D.

You are more likely to keep going when challenges arise when you are prepared in advance.

What I’m sharing with you, is something that I do. Every day! And, I’m telling you, when I first began doing this, about 3 years ago, it wasn’t long before my mindset began to SHIFT & I began to see RESULTS! A few tips for writing out your goals – strategically!

1) Keep a journal specifically for writing out your goals daily.

2) Get as specific as you possibly can.

3) Write your goals as if you already have what you desire to manifest.

4) Connect emotionally to what you are writing. It helps to speak it out loud and to visualize how you’ll feel when you get it! Bring those positive emotions and energy into the present moment.

The benefit of writing your goals daily is that it helps keep you focused, motivated and accountable.

4 Ways to Manifest Your Dreams in 2020

Now that we have finally entered a new year and a new decade.. 2020.. how do you feel? I know, many people have been anticipating the new year. For many of us, 2019 was a year of lessons learned. What makes 2020 so exciting, is that fact that those of us who learned and experienced growth from our 2019 challenges are ready.. We are prepared to take on this years challenges and win! Let’s face it, we will no doubt experience new challenges and maybe a few setbacks and disappointments BUT we have also transitioned into a new season.. of abundance! This is the year to secure all the blessings with our name on it. Last years challenge was attached with purpose. I promise you IF you take strategic action, this year will be your year.

Whatever goals you had in 2019 and prior that you did not achieve.. it’s not too late. But, you’ve got to intentionally decide to do something different THIS year, if you do not want a repeat of not achieving the goal. Some of you have been planning to write and publish your book for years now. Many of you have business ideas, a career you have yet to pursue, something that you’ve been dreaming, but have not pursued because of doubt, insecurity, a lack of money, motivation, etc. BUT timeout for excuses. It’s time to take strategic action and manifest those dreams! Here’s a few things to help:

4 Things To Help You Manifest Your Dreams

1) You’ve got to have the right mindset! You have to believe that what you desire to manifest is possible. You have to believe that you are capable of manifesting it, with the help of God the creator of the universe and the universe itself.

Having the right mindset is not just believing your dream is possible, but it’s thinking, speaking and taking positive action! Develop an awareness of the thoughts you think consistently. Be mindful of what thoughts you entertain in addition to what you allow yourself to indulge in via television, radio, social media, etc.

Your mindset is the single most important part of manifestation. The thoughts you consistently think must be in alignment with what you want. What you think about you bring about!

2) Get clear about what your ideal life looks like. Get specific about which goals you want to achieve. Identify, what you need to do; what goals do you need to set and what sets do you need to take to get where you want to go? You must know where you want to go, because this is the foundation of your strategy (game-plan!)

3) You need to have the right strategy! You have to have a game-plan. This is the what and how. Your game-plan tells you what are you going to do and how are you going to do it. Think of this as your roadmap. Without it, you’re just going through the motions of life, without any intention of going anywhere specific. Sad to say, many people are living like this and reach the end of their life with many regrets. Don’t let that be you.

4) You need someONE & someTHING to hold you accountable. You can use a vision board, vision-book or planner as your THING and you can hire a coach or mentor to guide you and a family member or friend to hold you accountable. The key to choosing your someONE is to find someone is, like you, on a journey to get where they are trying to go OR someone who is already where you are trying to get to .

7 Day Goal Success Challenge: Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of our Goal Success Challenge!

Today is all about Identify what you want. And more specifically, getting clear about what you need to do to GET or MANIFEST what you want.

Reflect back to your visualization exercise and identify the following:

  • What was a key part of your life that made it your dream life?
  • What goal did you accomplish in order for that to become your dream life?

In step one, we completed a visualization exercise that allowed us to take a look at the big picture. Step two is where we begin to zoom in and take a look at what goal(s) we need to take to get to the big picture. This is a necessary step to take before we even begin to set our goals. Let’s build the foundation first, by getting really clear about what we want and what we need to do to get there.

It Happens to Us All

As I sit at my favorite Starbucks, sippin’ on my Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, I look around at the people around me and I recognize something instantly… How different we all are. Some faces look vaguely familiar, while others I’ve never seen before. We’re all here for different reasons. However, another thought crosses my mind. We all have something in common.. we’ve each experienced something in our lives that caused us to pause or give up entirely on our dreams.

We all have a dream. We all have an idea of what our ideal life looks like. Even if you’re not clear on what your ideal life looks like or if you’ve never taken time to actually think about it, it still exists. And, what’s even more real, is the sad reality that very few people are living their ideal life. I want to change that. I am passionate about empowering people to dream big, realize that their dream is possible and to then take strategic action to make it happen!

2019 has been one hell of a year for most of us hasn’t it? I’ve seen the comments all up and down my social media timelines. I know it’s been a challenging year. We’ve experienced setbacks and disappointments that has left many of us discouraged about our futures as it concerns our dreams. Many of you paused when life happened unexpectedly and you never pressed play again. How many of you will be honest and admit that you feel stuck right now? That, 2019 didn’t quite go how you wanted or expected it to go?

Moment of transparency: Although I slayed many of my 2019 goals, I still experienced setbacks and disappointments that cause me to feel stuck. And, I say this not to brag, but to make a point.. I am so proud of myself, because THIS time, THIS year, I kept going! I didn’t press pause and just stay there. I’m still running towards my dream at a faster pace than before. Not everybody can say that. I’m thankful that I can and I’m ready to share with you how I did it and how you can to!

One of my top goals this year was to launch my coaching business, do a bit of traveling and speaking. I was hoping that the relationship I was in would progress to the next level and I was hoping I’d get my new job a lot sooner than I did. But, 2019 did not go how I was initially hoping it would go. Instead, it took 9+ months to land a new job, my 2 year relationship ended unexpectedly in heartbreak and immense disappointment and the speaking gig I had fell through. Listen, this has been one hell of a year. This time last year, I wanted to end my life. But, here I sit today at Starbucks, working on my dream and building the foundation for my ideal future. I can’t lie, I’ve been fighting off depression hard – trying not to entertain certain thoughts and distract my mind from triggers that cause me to spiral out of control emotionally when I focus on them to long. It hasn’t been easy at all. In fact, in an attempt to focus on what really matters, I’ve narrowed my focus to the point where I’ve left some people in my life and important things on the back burner.

I share all that to say this: It’s okay to be under construction. It’s okay to be a work in progress, it’s okay to be IN the process of healing and still working on your dreams. And, it IS possible to keep going even when you FEEL stuck. There are memories and emotions that have caused me to PAUSE mentally and emotionally – where I don’t allow myself to focus on certain aspects of my life; for instance, my relationships. Instead, I’ve focused on starting my business. Because, at least that is something I can control right? It’s something you have to GROW through! And, that’s okay.

Before we go, I want to share with you what has helped me KEEP going. To keep going, sometimes, you need to SHIFT your focus onto what is creating positive energy in your life. But, you want to make sure that you’re allowing yourself to heal and cope with life’s setbacks and disappointments in a healthy way. Don’t avoid or cover up what has caused you to pause or stop. Focus on it long enough to deal with it and heal. But, focus MORE your energy on positive people/influences and taking positive Action. Shift your perspective so that you view your setbacks and disappoints as lessons and opportunities to elevate.

Practical things that have helped me keep going is 1) Not procrastinating. Don’t wait to deal with the issue. Deal with it upfront. Focus on finding a solution or alternative, rather than complaining about what didn’t go right. Be solution focused.

2) Practicing mindfulness. I’ll admit, I’m a chronic over thinker, so practicing mindfulness is challenging for me at times. However, meditation, journaling and prayer have worked well for me. I’m not as consistent as I’d like to be, but just getting in the habit of doing it often helps immensely.

3) Maintaining a Positive Success Mindset. This is huge. I’ve worked hard to develop the mindset that I have and it is necessity for me, especially during this time of year. Before I had the mindset I have now, I complained all the time, I easily saw and focused on ALL things negative. I wasn’t solution focused at all. Now that I am, I am able to stay focused on my goals and KEEP going.

4) Remembering my WHY factor. During the most challenging moments of 2019, I remembered my REASON WHY and that was ALL the motivation I needed to KEEP going. There were things that came to an end in 2019, but that didn’t mean I had to stop. Nope, I grieved and am still healing, but I’ve continued making moves, because of my WHY factor!

My friend, you have what it takes to pursue your goals, live your dream and to live your life operating in your God given purpose. I know 2019 was one hell of year, but don’t let that discourage you from chasing after your goals harder than you ever have in 2020. In fact, I encourage you to start NOW. Build momentum, so you can pace yourself come January 1st.
